White Sail III/Learn to Race, Bronze Sail IV and Bronze Sail V
Advanced sailing is will strengthen your sailing skills as increased boat-time will increase competency. A combination of sailing lessons and racing or participating in on water events at your local sailing club, with safety boats available in most conditions, is the best way to achieve this.
White Sail III is the normal progression from White Sail II with more experience and emphasis on skippering ideally in stronger winds.
White Sail III/Learn to Race (WS3/LTR) will include WS3 but will also prepare the sailor for sailing in the club racing environment. In 2010 NASC will trial WS3/LTR weekend classes to better enable adult sailors to transition to club sailing. For more information please contact Alison Rayner at supersail@hotmail.com.
The Bronze levels are only offered during weekdays and are designed to teach you the advanced techniques of spinnaker sailing and trapeze work in all sailing conditions. The course reference for Bronze Sail is "Advanced Sailing Skills" by Sven Donaldson which is available at Glenmore Boats starting in the spring of 2010 .
Typically at least two weeks of instruction are required to cover all of the topics in Bronze Sail IV. Bronze Sail V is usually only achieved if instruction is mixed with personal sailing time on the student's part and can often require an entire summer.
If they prefer, students are welcome to bring and train in their own boat (20% discount is applied).
